Church Planting Movement
One of the main goals of every missionary is to see God move among the
nations. A popular way to see this goal accomplished is by taking part
in a Church Planting Movement (CPM). By definition, a CPM is a rapid and
exponential increase of indigenous churches planting churches within a
given people groups of population segment. It is rapid because new
churches are formed very quickly, it is exponential because all the
churches continually produce more churches, and it is indigenous because
it happens within a specific group.
A CPM is more than a revival of pre-existing churches. In a CPM new
churches get planted continually all to the glory of God. There are
CPM's going on now and several have gone on in the past. For example, in
a Latin American country there were 129 evangelical churches in 1989 and
by 1998 there were 1,918 churches. Among the Yanyin people of China the
number of churches rose from 3 in 1993 to 550 in 1998. And finally a
group within Cambodia saw an increase of 188 churches over a period of 6
years.
There are 10 universal elements to all CPM's. They are:
-
Prayer
-
Abundant Gospel Sowing
-
Intentional Church Planting
-
Scriptural Authority
-
Local Leadership
-
Lay Leadership
-
Cell or House churches
-
Churches Planting Churches
-
Rapid Reproduction
-
Healthy Churches
Church Planting Movements go beyond what a single missionary can
accomplish and even go beyond what well meaning native believers can do.
Church Planting Movements are a direct result of God's grace and good
favor.
